Welcome to the Sapphire Squad… Terry Gardiner! 💎
Terry has an extensive background in financial services having worked in the industry since 1967. 2021 marks five years of running his MoneyQuest Claremont franchise in WA, so we’d like to recognise this milestone by officially welcoming him to MQ’s 5-year club, otherwise known as the Sapphire Squad!
To celebrate, we asked Terry to reflect on his time with MQ so far…
❓ Tell us a bit about your business journey over the past five years…
“After enduring several health setbacks (which had various repercussions including precluding me from attending two of the beloved MoneyQuest national conferences) my ever-faithful assistant of almost 7 years moved on (with my blessing), so I had to start over and learn the admin side of the business again. Whilst this stagnated the growth of my business to some extent (and business stagnation is to be expected at my age – I think Rick Jenkins and I are by far the oldest within the group – we have the same colour hair 😉) there have been plenty of highlights as well. Every transaction I undertake up to and including settlement is a highlight and always has been. Being able to find a solution for a client after successfully navigating the complexity of their objectives is very rewarding.”
❓ How do you stay motivated?
“I have a note on my desk that I read at the end of each day that says – “What have I learned that is new today?” and this keeps me focused and ensures that I learn something new each and every day.”
❓ What is the key to building a strong client base?
“Taking the time and making the effort to pick up the phone and connect with people. Every day for about 10 years I would spend 1.5 hours on the phone chatting to clients, earning their trust and building solid relationships.”
❓ Best part of your job?
“Being able to call a client to let them know that they have finance approval, and then later calling them to let them know that their finance application has settled. Apart from that the best part is sitting with a client to get an understanding of where they want to go.”
